Ms. Poubigailiu Kamei

Insect-plant interactions are strongly shaped by the nutritional and chemical properties of the plants. Her work investigates how different host plants shape an insect’s growth, behaviour, physiology, the functional dynamics of its microbiota and the subsequent effects on offspring. While direct effects of plants on herbivores are well-established, her research addresses the largely underexplored question of how host plant variation can impact the biological traits of the insect through microbiome restructuring that can ultimately shape future herbivore-plant interactions. Her research seeks to uncover plant-driven mechanisms contributing to adaptation or shifts in insect behaviour, which can be used to help predict pest behaviour and design effective crop protection approaches.
